ESA awards QuSine contract for Timing Technology

We are proud to announce that QuSine has been selected by the European Space Agency (ESA) for a new project under ESA’s Discovery Programme – Open Space Innovation Platform (OSIP), focused on ultra-precise X-band RF-over-fibre clock distribution for next-generation spaceborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) systems.

The project, LightSync, will demonstrate a laboratory proof-of-concept for X-band clock distribution over fibre with sub-picosecond time skew. Building on our core opto-electronic signal generation technology, the project aims to enable highly stable, low-jitter timing architectures suitable for future large-scale SAR payloads.

Over the next 12 months, we will design, integrate, and experimentally validate the LightSync system in close alignment with ESA and industrial stakeholders. The project marks an important milestone for us in bringing our high-precision signal generation and synchronization solutions closer to space applications.

We thank ESA for the trust placed in QuSine and look forward to contributing to the development of next-generation Earth observation radar systems.

This activity is funded by the European Space Agency under Contract No. 4000150570/2025/NL/GLC within the Discovery Programme (OSIP).
